Frequently asked questions
Everything about turning messy breach files into a clean notification roster — accuracy, privacy, pricing and more.
What does CyberInci do?
CyberInci turns the messy files from a data breach into a clean, deduplicated roster of the unique individuals affected. It reads spreadsheets, PDFs, Word documents, Outlook emails and common data files, and it extracts PII not only from tables but from free text — breach letters, email bodies and case notes. It detects columns, normalizes SSNs, dates, names and addresses, merges duplicates, and gives every record a confidence score, so you get notification-ready data instead of a pile of inconsistent files.
What file types can it handle?
Spreadsheets (Excel .xlsx/.xls, CSV, TSV), PDF, Word (.docx), Outlook email (.msg), RTF and plain text, plus data formats — JSON, XML, YAML, HTML and dBase (.dbf). Beyond tables, it reads free text, so a breach letter, an email body or a case note becomes a set of people to review. It also handles messy real-world layouts — branding rows above the header, multi-row headers, cryptic column names, numbers stored as text — and you can upload a whole folder at once.
Can it pull PII out of documents and emails, not just spreadsheets?
Yes. Two engines run side by side: a structured engine reads tables (spreadsheets, PDFs, Word tables) into the roster, and a prose engine reads free text — email bodies, letters, notes — and assembles the scattered details (names, SSNs, dates of birth, addresses, phone numbers and more) into one draft record per person. Because prose is less certain than a table, everyone found in text is shown in a separate “Detected in Text” section, flagged for review, and never auto-added to your notification list — you confirm before anyone is contacted. It runs on our own local models; nothing is sent to third-party AI.
How accurate is the column mapping, and what if it gets one wrong?
The engine maps columns using both the header text and the actual shape of the values, which catches cryptic headers automatically. Every file gets a confidence score, and anything uncertain is flagged for review rather than silently accepted. You can correct any mapping on the review screen, and your correction is remembered for future files.
Is my data private? Do you store it or send it to AI companies?
On Cloud, uploads and results are automatically deleted 24 hours after processing, and we never train on your content. Extraction runs on our own models on our own infrastructure — your documents are never sent to third-party AI services like OpenAI or Google. Desktop Professional runs the entire pipeline offline on your machine, so your data never leaves it at all.
What's the difference between Cloud and Desktop Professional?
Cloud is the credit-metered web app for quick extractions from any device. Desktop Professional runs everything locally and offline — unlimited processing, the full delivery pipeline (deduplication, CSV/DAT export, SQL upload), and the strongest privacy guarantee since nothing is uploaded.
What do I actually get back — what's the output?
A standardized notification roster: one row per unique affected person, in a consistent schema, with a confidence score on each. You can export it as Excel or CSV, merge several files into one, or download each separately.
How does it handle duplicate people across files?
Entity resolution matches the same person across rows and files using SSN, email, phone and name, then merges them into a single record while keeping track of which source files each came from. It's deliberately conservative — it won't merge two different people who happen to share a name.
How do credits and pricing work?
New accounts start with free credits. One processed document uses one credit, and credits are only charged after a successful extraction — failed jobs are free. Need more? Redeem a top-up code, or contact support and we'll set you up.
Can you support a different Excel/PDF layout or a custom way to extract?
Yes — if your files have an unusual structure or you need a tailored extraction, email support@cyberinci.com and we'll help. As we're new, we're happy to work directly with early users.
How do I get started?
Create a free account at cyberinci.com, upload a file, and you'll have a clean roster in minutes. No setup or install needed for Cloud.
